Costco parking lot, March 5, 2010

There are so many hills around here that if a large store decides to build a hill must be blasted to allow enough flat coverage for the large structure and parking lots. The hills here are solid rock so the hilltops are ground into varying sizes of boulders. Beyond this flattened area and the pile of rocks in the background in the photo is another national department store with more ground rock.

Connecticut comes up with many memorial mottos. Beside its official one ("he who transplants, sustains"), there were "Classic Connecticut," "You belong in CT," and "Land of steady habits." The last may be a tribute to Catholicism. I've come up with a few myself: "Qui ascensus fuckensis," (hopefully spelled correctly), "Connecticut, because it hurts," and "Connecticut rocks."
